Kitchen Remodeling Tips

When remodeling a kitchen, you should consider that things can go wrong and not as planned. Here are a couple of tips to avoid getting burned remodeling your kitchen. A kitchen remodel is kind of a big deal—not something to be addressed hastily. Before you visit a showroom or meet with a contractor, read some kitchen remodeling tips and advice for creating the cooking space you’ve always wanted.

Stay Within Your Budget

Before you start to plan, think about the market and consider if a low-, medium-, or high-end kitchen remodel makes sense. Costs can run the range from $1,500 for a typical paint and hardware upgrades to $50,000 if you’re going to install expensive countertops and high-end appliances. Understanding your neighborhood will help keep from overspending – you might not get your investment back installing granite in your tiny starter home – or even worse, underspending. You’ll never see Formica in high-end homes, and in fact, it may hinder to your sale.

Stay Away From An Identity Crisis

Don’t attempt to remodel a 50’s ranch-style kitchen into a modern cooking space.  All homes, however unassuming, are built in certain architectural styles. Work with your remodel it, not against it. You’ll end up spending too much money and time on a complete overhaul, and you’ll end up with a kitchen that looks like it belongs in a different home.

Don’t Lose Track Of Trends

There’s constantly something new coming out in the world of kitchen improvements. By staying on top of the newest technological trends and developments, you may be able to find less expensive, more environmental-friendly versions of today’s hottest looks.

Keep Your Plumbing Where It Is

Moving your gas and water lines to accommodate the new configuration of sinks, stoves, ovens, or dishwashers is very costly, especially in older homes. Keep extra cash in your pocket by leaving any pipe-connected elements where they are.

Keep An Eye Out For The Wrong Floor Plan

If your budget allows you to rearrange appliances, be sure to keep your floor plan into consideration. Does it follow the triangular pattern between the refrigerator, stove, and oven? Is your dishwasher next to the sink? If not, you are going to create a mess every time you walk across the kitchen with a dripping dish in your hands

Don’t Trash Your Old Cabinets

If they’re quality wood and still in good shape, you’re in luck. This is one of the first things to check when considering a pre-remodel kitchen because cabinet frames are the most expensive part of the entire kitchen.  It’s quite simple to give restorable cabinets a makeover. There are 3 common ways to repurpose and save money; adding new doors and hardware, re-laminating sides and the front of the cabinets, or repainting. Make sure all the cabinets are cleaned and lightly sanded, then have a professional painter come in to spray them.

Don’t Skimp On New Hardware

Home remodeling stores carry a large selection of door hardware.  Pick knobs and pulls that complement the architectural style. These are an added touch that makes the whole room pop! Remove and replace any old painted hinges with brand new ones. It may be time-consuming but is also very inexpensive.

Benefit From Free Advice

Look at the home improvement centers for free, computer-based design services for help designing your kitchen. These professionals are at the leading edge of today’s remodeling trends, and their services include one-on-one assistance as well as at-home consultations, complete project supervision, and installation services.

Don’t Mismatch Your Appliances

Home remodeling stores carry a large selection of door hardware.  Pick knobs and pulls that complement the architectural style. These are an added touch that makes the whole room pop! Remove and replace any old painted hinges with brand new ones. It may be time consuming but is also very inexpensive.

Get the best attainable faucet, one with a pull-out spray or a gooseneck with removable head. It’s a necessity– and the difference between good and awesome is only $50 -$75. Stick to one consistent fixture finish because mixed finishes can look like mish-mosh.

Don’t Forget Include Sinks And Fixtures In Your Budget

When buying new appliances, stick with the same brand. Fortunately, appliance designers have begun to create good-looking, budget friendly lines that match. With a little homework and some smart shopping, you can find inexpensive appliances that look very high-end – and when they match, you get a designer look for a lot less.

Kitchen Remodeling Ideas 2018

Kitchen Remodeling Ideas
If you’re searching for kitchen remodeling ideas, we can help!  MK Remodeling is passionate about creating the newest, most cutting edge kitchen remodeling projects.  We focus on visual presentation, functionality, and complete customer satisfaction.  Take a look at some of the newest trends that people are falling in love with for their kitchen remodeling projects!

Kitchen Remodeling Ideas

Here are some looks that have caught my attention this month. I certainly have tons more but I can’t overwhelm the system and upload them all. I just feel like design can be anything you want it to be. Of course there is “bad design” where its just completely not functional, but as long as you stick to what you like, there really is no going wrong. Well unless you talk to a real estate agent, they might not agree. There is beauty in consistency and there is beauty in the unique.

Connected Dining Table & Islands

As the kitchen becomes the place of more social experiences and families cook together this concept is growing in popularity.  The chef no longer need to stand alone cooking while everyone enjoys get togethers.  With a table connected right to the island diners and hosts can enjoy each other’s company the entire evening!

Storage & Display Hutches

Kitchens with the square footage benefit from hutches to store fine china and silverware.  They can also be used to display crystal stemware, statues, and other collectibles from your travels and life.  A hutch increases your storage space and is more flexible than additional permeant cabinetry. If you decide to change your room layout it can be moved, or it can be taken with you if you sell your property.

Wall Inset Cabinetry

If you’ve got a walkway that’s near a wall in your kitchen that doesn’t have cabinetry you may consider wall inset cabinets.  When there isn’t room for a full set of cabinetry this kitchen design idea makes room for more storage while keeping the flow of traffic free and clear into your kitchen!  Maximize your space while maintaining the flow of traffic in your home.

Full Wall Backsplashes

The backsplash is typically just the space behind the cooktop or range but can extend out as far or high as you wish.  If you want a visually stunning kitchen design idea a full wall backsplash is a great way to do it!  You can choose to match your countertop material, use subway tile, or whichever constructed or natural material you wish.

Contrasting Kitchen Cabinetry

For homeowners that want to have a unique and striking kitchen presentation choosing different materials, paints, or finishes can provide the punch you’re looking for!  Combining the warmth of wood with the modern and cool finishes of grays provides noticeable design uniqueness.  In fact, when it is done right the wood cabinetry can look like it is simply furniture bought and tailored to fit into place.

 The Picturesque Kitchen

While most kitchens are all about storage if your home is lucky enough to have a view, many homeowners are capitalizing on it.  By installing more and larger windows kitchens can be brighter and offer a full view of your landscaping, view of nature, or even view of the city.  To offset the loss of cabinet space many homeowners are choosing to install wall inset cabinetry.

Kitchen Cabinet Organization

Kitchen Cabinet Organization Must Haves

Kitchen Cabinet Organization

Kitchen cabinet organization is one of the major focuses in today’s kitchen design and remodeling world. Having enough space that’s laid out intelligently makes the kitchen more user friendly. Better organization in the kitchen means it will befaster and easier to cook and even clean up. See all of the great kitchen cabinet organization products and solutions below.

Kitchen Cabinet Organization Design

When you enjoy being in your kitchen and cooking, you’ll do it more and end up saving money.  There is a wide variety of kitchen cabinet organization products that will help make the kitchen more ergonomic.

Pot & Pan Organization

Most homes have various sizes of pots and pans.  They typically get stacked inside each other to save space.  This might be a space saver but means you’ve got to dig out the pan or pot you need every time you cook.  Pot and pan organizers rack your pots and pans on their sides and stand them up much the same way a dishwasher does.  This makes better use of the cabinet space and solves the problem of having to lift up 3 or 4 pans to get the one you need.

Spice Organization

Most homes have a wide variety of favorite meals that require a wide variety of spices. From Turmeric to Tandoori and Vanilla to Thyme you need to be able to find what you need easily and quickly as you cook. There are a number of great spice organization options. You can include door mounted tray systems, have a spice tray drawer organizer, or even pull-out spice storage.

Kitchen Cabinet Corner Storage

Kitchen cabinet design has always been tricky in the corner of the kitchen. To solve this problem people use lazy susans, corner drawers, and pull out corners. All of these solutions focus on making it possible to use the corner space in your kitchen, but still have the items stored easily accessible.

Kitchen Cabinet Appliance Storage

Serious foodies and home chefs typically aren’t satisfied with a toaster and microwave. They have KitchenAid mixers, Nuwave grills, and Crockpots. There typically isn’t space to just leave these appliances out and they can be cumbersome to store. A metal basket pull out organizer is the perfect solution to where and how to store your kitchen appliances. This will leave your counter space clear and ready for use.

Under Sink Kitchen Cabinet Organizers

Another spot in the kitchen that frequently gets chaotic and needs some organization is under the sink. Your dish soap, dishwasher tabs, sponges, brushes, and cleaning supplies are many times simply a mess under the sink. A cleaning supply caddy with a pullout and handle make it easy to get what you need out or take all of it out for a deep kitchen cleaning.

Trash Can Pull Out Storage

Most homes are trying to maximize the storage space in the kitchen. Closets with a garbage can are a wasteful use of space. Many homeowners prefer to have cabinet trash compactors or pull out trash areas. This makes it easily accessible yet out of sight. These solutions also help keep potential garbage smells out of your kitchen.

Remodeling Fun

My adventure into my own remodel has begun I had this master bathroom with a tiny shower that would never look clean due to the fact that whoever installed the grout got dirt in it, two tiny closets that just were not very successful at holding my stuff, and a vanity that just didn’t scream master bathroom. Now I know these are all complaints that are my own doing and the bathroom was functional, but not for me. So after a free day, it was ripped out.

Now here is where I caution you all. PLAN PLAN PLAN. Sure its fun to smash the things that bug you to bits, but where do we go from there? Always have a final destination in mind. When you go at it all willy nilly, the process will be frustrating. Be patient, ask questions, don’t be afraid to try and learn things throughout the process. You may find you can get something thats more functional or what you didn’t think was possible. Then you will be ready to start.

It is a really dirty, dusty, awful process tearing into your home. Make sure you get the final result YOU want. Be resourceful, do your research, don’t be afraid to ask, and have fun. I know I am.

Embrace the Imperfections

I swear I am the worst at remembering to write these things. Of course not being the most eloquent writer or one who can sit down and focus enough to write a full sentence doesn’t seem to help.

So to bring everything up to speed. I bought my first house. I can’t get over the feeling that I can do anything I want to it. Lime green countertops are a possibility (not that I would ever do that to myself.) So this brings up a really tough point. Remodeling. As I walk around there is always a list of I wannas. I stare at gorgeous pictures of perfectly staged homes all day, get to shop for beautiful materials and brainstorm about everything a client might want to change in their home. Then I get to go home and do the same thing.

I realized that perhaps this can be the worst thing for a home owner. I have to remind myself this is a starter home not a mega mansion and I’m not a millionaire. That floor tile isn’t so bad, not something I would pick but its there and its all done without going to the dust and cleaning and the yucky stages. All I can say is if you are having this same issue as I am, relax. Embrace those imperfections. The the wabi-wabi style that you have going on because it is yours and you can eventually change it if you like, but a huge multi-slider to the backyard may not be right for you. Or that big island you always wanted may not fit in the space. Embrace your space and make the changes that are right for you and your wallet.

Windowless Bathroom Solutions

I am the worst about consistently writing, with everything going on I just put it off until I can sit down and think. With several projects in their final phases, this has been hard to do. So here I am finally in the office catching up and I wanted to bring a few ideas to you guys on how to make that windowless bathroom not feel like a cave. I know many homes have at least one bathroom without a window, and it starts to get a little small with everything that has to fit in the space. So here are a few things that will make it stylish and make it feel bright and open.

Subway Tile Installations

I have been asked about patterns to do with tiles. Not pattern tile mind you, that is a whole other subject. So subway tile is extremely popular, its simple, relatively inexpensive (unless you go to some custom made tiles then you’re in another bracket) and have been around a long time.  So I have been looking around to find some unique ways to lay this tile and have some really fun ideas that even makes me want to put subway tile in my own home. I have always been somewhat against it for my personal residence for some reason but these patterns give me some major inspiration. These give it an almost fresh look over the traditional way it is installed.

Two Toned Kitchens – Too Much Going ON?

For the past few years designers have been mixing it up a bit with materials and color choices in kitchens. As I sit here trying to incorporate a bar area into a kitchen with already black cabinets, I find myself doing the same thing. Why not designate areas with cabinet choices even when they are right next to one another? Is all white cabinets too… white? Here are some examples of what I think are wonderful ways of incorporating different tones in kitchens without compromising the timeless elegance.  Perhaps its just me falling in love with the warm woods with the stark whites, but all of these kitchens have a common theme.

Its 2015 Design Trends!

Its a new year again, and of course its a time where everyone starts to put the design trends out there. I have noticed a few that I would like to write about, and probably have gone over in previous writings, but we are seeing some trends from last year stay strong. As well as some that are really fading out. Like vessel bowl sinks.

Last year I found a few obsessions on my own that seem to really be getting big this year, and some of these things are what I am hoping we see more of. Design is all about you though, whatever you like in your home is what is on trend. Though I would recommend staying away from avocado green on cabinets or something.  These trends I am presenting are the ones that I would love to incorporate into my home, when I find one.
