Using technology to test out a remodel before it begins

My boss is in Las Vegas this week at the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS), so I’m feeling a little jealous.

On that note, be sure to be on the lookout for our coverage on the latest and greatest from KBIS here and on our Facebook page.

Now, while I am not attending KBIS, I am still tracking things going on in Las Vegas, such as the unfortunately abbreviated International Builder’s Show (IBS).

One of the cooler things I’ve seen is how some builders are using Augmented Reality (AR) or Virtual Reality (VR) to show homeowners what a completed project can look like — before any work actually begins.

Check out our video about augmented experience right here!

Imagine laying out your dream addition on an iPad, queueing it up on screen, and then slapping on an Oculus Rift and walking through it! It’s now totally possible and totally cool.

Back to reality for a moment, getting a solid return on your investment, more than 80% in some cases, is a big goal of remodelers.

This video from Fox 8 in Cleveland offers some great advice on remodeling trends and tips for getting the most bang for your buck.

If you’re a regular reader of this blog, then you’ll notice it underscores a lot of what we’ve been talking about. For instance, a garage door offers a top return on investment. They start anywhere from $1,600 to several thousands, depending on size, brand, and timeline.

The expert in the video mentions curb appeal many times. Curb appeal is very important, especially if you are selling soon. Let your neighborhood guide your decisions.

Sometimes it’s as easy as replacing the front door and touching up the entryway. (Talk about a first impression!) Other times it could mean adding stone facing to the front of your house, which is popular in some places, or maybe simply tidying up landscaping.

The video also identifies current trends, such as more spacious showers and bathrooms. While there is a movement toward fewer tubs, most real-estate professionals will recommend having one tub in your home if you are looking to sell.

Hope you have a great week!

Give your bathroom the ‘Star Wars’ treatment

Picture

It’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” release weekend, and I would be remiss in my duties if I did not incorporate that into my post.

If you’re hoping to remodel your bathroom into something more like a galaxy far, far away, then look no further, because we came across an article titled “4 futuristic bath upgrades to indulge in for 2016” and it’s going to blow your mind quicker than the Death Star wasting Alderaan.

The first upgrade to consider is your toilet. The article mentions the Neorest 750H by TOTO, which is Corellian Corvette of commodes. The intelligent toilet features “integrated UV light and special glaze to break down dirt and grime in the bowl,” according to its website. It also boasts a Tornado/Siphon Jet Flushing System, a heated seat, deodorizer and warm water sprays to provide an unparalleled experience. With all the bells and whistles, it retails for $9,800.

The second upgrade to consider is your shower. If you are tired of guessing when the temperature is just perfect enough to jump in, then a remote-controlled shower can make your life a million times easier. Instead of jumping into a shower only to find Hoth-like water temperatures instead of ones from Tatooine, you will arrive at just the right time. And if you want to keep the party going like the Mos Eisley Cantina, a water-proof sound system — that can stream music from your mobile device — is right up your alley.

Smart mirrors are another upgrade to consider. Some digital mirrors have anti-fog coating, so you can admire your pretty mug without having to wipe down the mirror first. Other mirrors allow you to add a touch screen to access apps and emails, or you can add a TV so you can stay up to date on box office numbers or the big game.

Finally, digital electronic faucets are a thing, probably straight out of the First Order handbook. These bad boys use infrared sensors — I mean, the Force — to sense when you are away and turn off. Other features include displays so you can program temperature, flow duration, or monitor usage, much like they do on Jakku.

If we’ve awakened your interest, give us a call! Have a good week. And may the Force be with you!

Tips and tricks for remodeling in the New Year

Picture

I know, I know. It’s not even Christmas yet, and we’re already talking about the New Year! Forgive us, but we’re just too excited about what the future could hold for your home remodeling needs.

New Year’s resolutions don’t have to apply to just you. They can apply to your home too! The New Year is a popular time for remodeling, and with that in mind, there are a few tips and tricks you should be aware of, courtesy of realtor.com.

For a starters, a look at your front door. It makes a strong impression, is easy to swap, and has a great return on investment, the article says. Consider replacing it to give your home a new feel, and make it more attractive from the get-go.

Next, think about flooring. More buyers are looking for that clean, glossy look that flooring provides. It’s durable and has an eloquent feel, so it has function and style. These days, carpeting is trending toward bedrooms only.

Check out this link for flooring inspiration. It features terra cotta tiles, bricks, and other stylish advice.

Last, think about the future. Aging in place doesn’t mean giving up your sense of style! You don’t have to add function at the expense of fashion. Wider walkways have universal appeal, and the latest grab bars are very stylish.

Most important: If you want to get all of these done at the same time, give us a call!

Have a good week!
