MK Design Loves – April

Few looks this month that I am in love with. First is outdoors. It is SPRING finally, well here in Arizona anyway. I have always loved a good fireplace in the backyard, creates such a romance and a good place for people to gather while its chilly, but now I am totally obsessed with chandeliers so of course those make a beautiful statement in the outdoors as well!

Next is the bathroom. I have always loved hardwood, but for a bathroom that is constantly wet and prone to leaks, hardwood is definitely not practical. Tile is now being made to mimic wood and is a beautiful addition to the bathroom palette.

Last is the use of lites in bathroom glass. I feel like it gives such a unique feel to the bathroom and would be great for a smaller bathroom or condo. There are so many fun things to explore with interior design, don’t be afraid!

Book Decorating Ideas

I thought I would share some fun tips on how to decorate those bookshelves and coffee tables. I love books, not only to read, but I have to get hardbound or leather bound interesting looking books. You can use them for everything. They make the bookcases look nice, they can be used to created a tiered look for accent tables, and they can be used to keep guests entertained at your sofa while you finish picking out your outfit for the day.

Picking a Backsplash Tile

Backsplashes are a fun personality piece in a kitchen, but they can’t clash with what is going on in the rest of the kitchen or go out of style. If you have ultra modern cabinets certain tile choices really are going to make it look funky in a bad way. What I like to suggest is stay current, but use classic materials. A white subway tile has been used for a long time, but have it in another neutral color, different material such as natural stone, or lay it in a different way, it creates a current look. So down the road when those crazy bold mosaics go out of style, you still have a classic look with a twist. We are looking for materials that will be trendy and show your taste and personality, but since it is a “permanent” part of your home, we don’t want to take away from resale in the future if those are your plans.
