Backsplashes are a fun personality piece in a kitchen, but they can’t clash with what is going on in the rest of the kitchen or go out of style. If you have ultra modern cabinets certain tile choices really are going to make it look funky in a bad way. What I like to suggest is stay current, but use classic materials. A white subway tile has been used for a long time, but have it in another neutral color, different material such as natural stone, or lay it in a different way, it creates a current look. So down the road when those crazy bold mosaics go out of style, you still have a classic look with a twist. We are looking for materials that will be trendy and show your taste and personality, but since it is a “permanent” part of your home, we don’t want to take away from resale in the future if those are your plans.
