Its 2015 Design Trends!

Its a new year again, and of course its a time where everyone starts to put the design trends out there. I have noticed a few that I would like to write about, and probably have gone over in previous writings, but we are seeing some trends from last year stay strong. As well as some that are really fading out. Like vessel bowl sinks.

Last year I found a few obsessions on my own that seem to really be getting big this year, and some of these things are what I am hoping we see more of. Design is all about you though, whatever you like in your home is what is on trend. Though I would recommend staying away from avocado green on cabinets or something.  These trends I am presenting are the ones that I would love to incorporate into my home, when I find one.

Pocket Doors & Sliding Walls

I know I have talked about doors before, but I feel like pocket doors really don’t get enough credit. I have often suggested pocket doors for spaces that aren’t quite on the roomy side and I know several clients have looked at me like I am crazy. So hear me out. I know when I say pocket door you think “Oh those hollow cheap looking things that never locked.” Those are not what I am talking about.

You find the doors I am talking about in many old Victorian homes and they are used to separate adjoining rooms or connect them when they are open. Swinging doors take up so much room that we don’t realize. The entire area where they swing in or out is lost to the space. . SO thats why I suggest pocket doors, because not only do they make a beautiful statement, they are more practical than you think. The pocket doors are also made solid and block out sound better than you would think. Bring in glass into these doors and you get the privacy without sacrificing the light.

Also there are sliding doors or sliding walls. The are just as useful to shut off a part of the house or make it open up and maintain a little more freedom or privacy vs. open in those open floor plans.

So if you want to make a beautiful statement with your entry into a room, these are definitely a great way impress.
